On July 6, the Northern Region held a regional Community Development Workshop for community tennis organizers and volunteers throughout the region.  Twenty-five people participated in the Workshop, which was held at the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena prior to the professional World Team Tennis match between the hometown New York Buzz and the downstate New York Sportimes.
Among the topics discussed were grant opportunities, lesson programs in public parks, junior lessons using the QuickStart format, adaptive tennis, league tennis, tournaments and high school tennis.

Sue Wold, Northern Regional President, organized the event and said, "It’s wonderful for our dedicated member organizations and volunteers to have this opportunity to get together and share ideas about how we can best promote tennis in the Northern Region."  The meeting was also attended by USTA Eastern Board President Tim Heath, Executive Director D.A. Abrams, and USTA Eastern staff members Linda Mann, Maria Lirio and Jenny Irwin.

After the meeting, participants enjoyed a player party with New York Buzz player Martina Hingis and the match.
